Job Summary:

The Employment Transition Coordinator will develop long term employment opportunities for job seeking participants by engaging the business community and assisting participants to connect with employers.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop strong working relationships with the business community, understands their employment needs, and ensures a good fit of skills and aptitude for the businesses.
  2. Provide respectful, innovative, Person Centered Planning services that maximize the attainment of goals, in an effort toward a lifestyle of self-governance and self-determination.
  3. Assist trainees in developing employment seeking and retention skills.
  4. Maintain an active up-to-date contact list of businesses and job opportunities; maintain a record of employer contacts.
  5. Regularly meet with community employers to assess their needs and employment opportunities; develop a placement referral base.
  6. Assists the trainee in developing a network as well as natural support systems.
  7. Track, enter, and maintain necessary documentation to be processed, filed, and/or submitted to Goodwill staff and appropriate partner organizations.
  8. Provide one-on-one trainee or group training.
  9. Serve as a liaison between employer, participants, and staff in such a way that Goodwill's mission and business needs are both met.
  10. Be co-located at CMH and work with referred individuals to achieve employment related goals.
  11. Ensure participants' employment document and skills are presentable prior to introducing them to an employer.
  12. Ensure documentation and compliance with CARF standards and CMH contract.
  13. Meet departmental job placement/retention goals established in coordination with other Workforce Development team members.
  14. Provide job retention services by facilitating the building of natural supports, job coaching, monitoring progress, problem-solving, job site visits, and mentoring.
  15. Adjust working hours to include early and late meetings, work schedules, and contacts at various locations, or conferences and seminars as needed.
  16. Ensure safe working conditions and environment for trainees in community based employment.
  17. Maintain and implement all applicable safety laws, regulations, and policies to include worksites and personnel working as agents of Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Michigan in community based employment.
  18. Coordinate the employment related transition of CMH Skill Building.

  1. CARF: Ensure documentation and compliance with CARF standards.
  2. Safety: Maintain applicable safety standards, rules, and regulations in areas of responsibility.

  4. Stakeholder Focused: Work with integrity and provide exemplary customer services to internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Accountability: Have key metrics that drive performance taking a leadership role in maximizing the social and financial return of the community resources invested in Goodwill.

  7. Contribute to Strategic Plan.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field is preferred.  Experience in public relations, social work, or marketing is preferred.  A diversified job experience is beneficial; experience working with persons with disabilities is helpful.  The incumbent shall:

  • Have a cellular telephone.
  • Be able to perform job site duties and demonstrate the same for training purposes.
  • Have the ability to travel and have a valid driver's license and personal auto insurance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be able to bend, stretch, reach and lift up to 40 pounds, walking or standing to a significant degree, involves sitting most of the time in an office environment infrequently exposed to extreme temperature, noise, fumes, dust, etc.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Must be able to bend, stretch, reach, and lift up to 20 pounds, walking or standing to a significant degree, involves sitting most of the time in an office environment infrequently exposed to extreme temperatures, noise, fumes, dust, etc.
