If happiness through enriching the lives of others makes your heart sing, we may have the job for you!  Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Michigan is seeking applicants for the rewarding position of Lead Skills Trainer.  The ideal candidate will be compassionate with a heart for helping others to succeed and bringing joy to others.  Job Coaches provide support for people to perform activities, to develop and maintain life skills, and/or to obtain and maintain community employment, including one-on-one job training.

Job Summary: Provides support for people to perform activities, to develop and maintain life skills, and/or to obtain and maintain community employment, including one-on-one job training.

Essential Functions:

  1. Works one-on-one with people on interpersonal skills and other life skills as outlined in a participants' IPOS or individualized employment plan.
  2. Reports weekly to the Community Program Manager to give an overview of progress with assigned participants in services.
  3. Assist Goodwill Industries in maintaining harmonious relations with families/guardians, and partners.
  4. Performs job duties in a safe manner and assures safe environment for people by maintaining a clean and orderly work area, using proper lifting techniques, positioning people safely, safely securing people in their wheelchairs, and addressing safety concerns before an incident occurs.
  5. Maintains and implements all applicable safety laws, regulations, and policies. Assures safety of people in the program and staff at Goodwill, in transportation, and in community activities.
  6. Responsible for immediate completion of accident report forms, unusual occurrences reports, and/or CMH Incident Reports.
  7. Take initiative to perform tasks involving laundry, dishes, food preparation, outing coverage, and other essential responsibilities as assigned.
  8. Assist in planning and implementing daily activities.
  9. Maintains documentation of individual activity and submit reports to appropriate Community Program Manager.
  10. Assists participant in attending community activities as needed.
  11. Assist Goodwill Industries in maintaining harmonious relations with employers, families/guardians, and partners.
  12. Performs job duties in a safe manner and assures safe environment for participants by maintaining a clean and orderly work area, using proper lifting techniques, positioning people safely, safely securing people in their wheelchairs, and addressing safety concerns before an incident occurs.
  13. Responsible for immediate completion of accident report forms, unusual occurrences reports, and/or CMH Incident Reports.
  14. Ensure that participant is dressed appropriately, clean, toileted/diapered as needed and that all other care needs are attended to according to guidelines.
  15. Take initiative to perform tasks involving laundry, dishes, food preparation, and other essential responsibilities as assigned.
  16. Assist in planning and implementing daily activities.
  17. Provides Non-Vocational Skill building services and ensures the accuracy and completion of goals as stipulated in Individualized Plans of Service.
  18. Ensures the completion of goals as directed by the LINC Coordinator.
  19. Assist in the completion of outing lists prior to Community events.
  20. Assist with tracking Community Integration hours in correlation with Individualized Plans of Service.
  21. Ensure the completion and accuracy of monthly Community Integration data sheets.
  22. Ensure the accuracy and completion of MITC at the end of each day according to Medicaid guidelines.
  23. Ensure the accuracy and organization when loading buses for departure each day.
  24. Promotes teamwork and positive interactions with co-workers and participants.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. CARF: Ensure documentation and compliance with CARF standards.
  2. Safety: Maintain applicable safety standards, rules, and regulations in areas of responsibility.

  4. Stakeholder Focused: Work with integrity and provide exemplary customer services to internal and external stakeholders.

  8. Professionalism: Demonstrate a genuine interest in serving the needs of others and a positive attitude toward the community, co-workers, and individuals we serve. Represent the organization to the public with a courteous, helpful and business-like attitude.
  9. Assists with arranging staffings with the person and appropriate support groups and individuals.
  10. Promotes and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork.
  11. Attends weekly Job Coach meetings and special trainings.
  12. Ensures documentation and compliance with CARF Standards.
  13. Adjusts work hours to include early and late meetings, work schedules, and contacts at various locations.
  14. Carries out additional duties as assigned by the Community Program Manager or designee.

Education and/or Experience: A high school diploma or GED is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: English/Spanish bilingual is helpful. Experience working with persons with disabilities is helpful. A diversified job background is helpful. The incumbent shall:

  • Must be certified in First-Aid/CPR/AED within 30 days of employment.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule;
  • Have an acceptable driving record;
  • Have a driver's license and be able to drive from location to location;
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid chauffeur's license;
  • Have a cellular telephone.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment: Must be able to bend, stretch, reach, and lift up to 40 pounds, and be able to perform various job site duties with the ability to demonstrate work for training purposes.
